A Good Fit For High School Grads
ASPIRA City College – Philadelphia  PA

Whether you’re a senior looking ahead, just got your diploma or GED, or took time after graduation to sort things out, your next step is ASPIRA City College, located in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. ASPIRA provides accredited career education to prepare high school graduates not bound for four-year college opportunities to gain in-demand skills for well-paying careers and a fast track to sustainable futures. You can attend online or on-campus and can choose from several class schedules. Our AST Degree programs for Computer Support Specialists and Web Designers can be finished in under two years, while our post-secondary Medical Secretary diploma program takes as little as nine months.

ASPIRA City College can help you develop a feasible career plan by providing, at no charge, the O*Net Career Interest Inventory. The Inventory is an ideal starting point for career exploration. It matches your interests to job titles recognized by the U.S. Department of Labor through O*Net, the Occupational Information Network.

O*Net is a free online database developed to help students, job seekers, guidance counselors, admission advisors, and other advisors better understand career profiles. It was developed under the sponsorship of the U.S. Department of Labor/Employment and Training Administration.

The Inventory takes about 30 minutes to complete online. Your responses to 180 work activity statements reveal your top interest areas, which are then matched to a list of occupations to consider.

  • 86% felt more informed about the occupations that may be a good fit for their interests.
  • 83% said the assessment was easy to complete.

High Priority Occupations (HPOs) are one component of Pennsylvania’s industry-driven approach to workforce development. The purpose of the HPO list is to align workforce training and education investments with occupations in demand by employers with higher skill needs and that are most likely to provide family-sustaining wages.

O*NET is a program within the U.S. Department of Labor that serves as the nation’s number one source for occupational information. It defines “Bright Outlook” careers as those expected to grow rapidly in the U.S. in the next several years or to have large numbers of job openings characterized by at least one of the following criteria:

  • Projected to grow faster than average (employment increase of 7% or more) over the period 2018-2028
  • Projected to have 100,000 or more job openings over the period 2018-2028

Graduating high school is an exciting cause for celebration. It’s also a challenging crossroads, where considering college and the decisions you make have far-reaching implications.

  • How you feel about yourself
  • Your employability
  • How much money you earn
  • How often and how long you’ll be unemployed
  • Where you can afford to live
  • Who you meet and, yes, who you marry
  • What you can afford to buy
  • How easy or difficult it is to relocate
  • What you can do for fun
  • Respect from others
  • Your health & life expectancy
  • The pleasure, if any, you derive from work
  • And a lot more

ASPIRA City College
AFFORDABLE – ACCELERATED – ACCESSIBLE

Not everyone graduating from high school is in a position to pursue a bachelor’s or advanced degree. Sometimes, it’s just not feasible, and graduates need a short path to career-readiness and a fast track to earning career-level income. The career-specific programs at ASPIRA City College are the solution if your interest is in the information technology (IT) or the healthcare field. Start your career journey preparing to be a Medical Secretary, Web Designer, or Computer Support Specialist; each is a High Priority Occupation in Philadelphia County, Pennsylvania, and a Bright Outlook Career nationally.  Advance in the field if and when you’re ready. With all these prospects in mind, if your parents struggle to make ends meet, paying for college may seem almost impossible or cause you to shoot for the lowest tuition rather than the college that best suits all your needs. That’s where financial aid comes in for those who qualify.

Financial Assistance

State and federal financial aid options are available for those who qualify, helping to make ASPIRA City College within your reach. Our financial aid counselors are ready to assist you and your parents with clear and practical information. They make understanding and applying for financial aid straightforward.
